Support the campaign to Save Our Supplements

Consumers for Health Choice and everyone in the Health Food industry needs your help!

The food supplements industry and your freedom of choice has already been greatly damaged by the EU's Health Claims Directive, which is a virtual gagging order on the industry on telling you how products may benefit you, and the EU's Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive, which has had a devasting effect on the availability of herbal medicines in the EU.

Now, the unelected European Commission will bring forward in the very near future the long-awaited proposals for maximum dose levels for all vitamins and minerals in food supplements. The truth is that this would already have happened were it not for the fact that the previous unelected commissioner responsible (John Dalli) was forced to resign on corruption charges, which has caused some delay in the proposals coming forward. However there is now considerable pressure being applied by a newly formed organisation called "Health Europe", who despite the misleading name, is an umbrella organisation formed to represent the pharamaceutical companies. They are campaining for the setting of pathetically restrictive levels which could threaten the continued availability of higher potency dietary supplements; restrict your freedom of choice, and in our view greatly damage your health. The future of many specialist retailers and manufacturers is also at risk.

What can you do about it?

We think that the best and easiest solution would be for the UK to stop wasting £55million pounds a day on it's membership of the EU, and leave. That way, the UK's elected government could make it's own laws again, rather than unelected bureaucrats.

In the meantime, we ask you to visit the web site of Consumers for Health Choice where you can sign a petition, make a donation, and learn generally how to support their important campaign. Our opinion is that signing petitions is better than nothing, but if you are really serious about helping, you need to write in person to your MP. We think that one letter to an MP is worth a hundred or more signatures on a petition.

We need to ensure that all MPs are made aware of the potential threat posed by the Food Supplements Directive and so we are asking you to help by writing to your local constituency MP setting out your concerns and encouraging them to raise the issue and take action on behalf of the British industry.

All the information needed to find out how to contact your M.P. along with a suggested draft letter (though we always encourage people to use their own words) is found here https://www.consumersforhealthchoice.com/save-our-supplements/contact-your-mp/.

Your opinion and support really count, and will help to influence the European Commission in order to retain freedom of choice for all supplement users. The Finchley Clinic is proud to support the campaign, and hope you will take the opportunity to do so as well. Thank you.
