The most important known active constituent in Turmeric is Curcumin. It is an antioxidant and may help to protect the body from free radicals.
One of its lesser known functions was confirmed in a study from 2013, which showed that it was useful to stabilise mood. In animal research, curcumin increased levels of serotonin and dopamine. These two neurotransmitters help your mind stay calm and focused on a task, and help you to resist depression and other mood disorders. Curcumin has also been shown to inhibit the accumulation of destructive beta-amyloids in the brain of Alzheimer's patients.
