Green Barley has been a staple food of human populations since at least 7,000 B.C. and in Japan the young grass is one of several traditional green foods that are considered to be energising and anti-ageing. It is a good natural alkaliser, and may also aid digestion and detoxification.
The majority of the past scientific research into the benefits of Green Barley Grass was led by the late Dr Yoshihide Hagiwara, who began his career in pharmaceutical medicine until his working environment caused his health to suffer and he became seriously ill with toxic mercury poisoning at the age of just 38. This forced him to give up his work and his pharmaceutical company – and led him to the use of herbs and later, to green foods, in order to detoxify his body and restore his health. Many of the nutrients in Green Barley are destroyed by heat or acidity, so he developed a unique extraction and spray-dry process that earned him Japan's prestigious Science and Technology Award. These patented manufacture methods are still used to produce Green Magma today. Green Barley contains over 70 nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes – in particular Super Oxide Dismutase (S.O.D.) – a powerful free radical scavenger, and a unique form of vitamin E called α-tocepherol succinate that has been shown to stimulate the release of prolactin and growth hormone and has been shown to inhibit cancerous tumor growth ten times more effectively than other forms of vitamin E.
