Muira Puama (Ptychopetalum Olacoides) is a small tree native to the Brazilian Amazon rainforest and other parts of South America. It has a long history of traditional use as an energy tonic, remedy for impotence, and for awakening libido in both men and women. Often referred to by its common name 'potency wood'.
For hundreds of years, indigenous rainforest tribes have used bark or root infusions of Muira Puama. The root and bark are rich in EFAs, plant sterols, and an alkaloid called Muirapuamine. It has a long history of traditional use in Brazilian herbal medicine as well as in England, where it is still listed in the British Herbal Pharmacopoeia.
