Vitamin C has become so well known since the publication of the book "Vitamin C and the Common Cold" by Linus Pauling in the early 70's, and countless books since then, such as the 500 page, fully referenced "Vitamin C and Infecticious Diseases" by Thomas E. Levy, M.D., J.D. that it seems pretty amazing that there is even a debate about the remarkable health benefits of this critical detoxifying, antioxidant, anti aging, collagen building, immune building, anti viral, and general infection fighting vitamin. Countless papers have been published demonstrating the health benefits and safety of supplementing ones diet with Vitamin C. Even though they have totally lost this argument, some people are still arguing over whether Vitamin C supplementation enhances health, and frankly, we think it's ridiculous. It really is time that that nutrition 'sceptics' engage in a more intelligent debate than arguing over the benefits of Vitamin C.
The body does not produce or store Vitamin C. The government RDA (reccomended daily allowance) for Vitamin C is a mere 60mg per day but this figure is based on what has been observed to be sufficient to prevent scurvy. This is a diseases caused by such grossly deficient levels of Vitamin C in the body that the tissues start to break down, until death ocurrs. However, the RDA is not based on what most nutritionists regard as optimal amounts for health and well being, which most practitioners beleive are far in excess of 60mg
We also beleive that not all Vitamin C supplements are the same. Although you can buy Vitamin C anywhere these days, there are potential problems with most of the brands you can buy in health food shops

We were recently asked whether this was the L or D form of Vitamin C. We checked with the supplier and this is what they said.
Our vitamin C is 100% L-ascorbic acid. D-ascorbic acid does not exist in nature and most modern chemists hold that it is a theoretical entity that cannot even be synthesised, while others claim it can be synthesised but is devoid of vitamin C activity.
