We have been informed that until Serrapeptase has been approved as a Novel Food, which as we understand it, means be able to prove it was consumed prior to 1997, we have had to stop promoting it for human consumption. As a consequence, our Serrapeptase products are now sold solely for animal use.
Serrapeptase, also known as Serratiopeptidase is an enzyme isolated from a bacteria called Serratia E15. This enzyme is produced in the intestine of the silkworm. Silkworms go through a transformational process within a cocoon that turns them into moths. It is this specific enzyme that is used by the silkworm to dissolve the cocoon and re-emerge as a moth. Each capsule contains the Serratiopeptidase Enzyme preparation providing 1,000,000 IU of activity. The delayed release capsule prevents the enzyme inside the capsule from being harmed by stomach acids. Serrapeptase has been used as a nutritional supplement in Europe and Asia for nearly three decades.
Take 1-3 capsules per day, more if required on an empty stomach. 30 minutes before food or 2 hours after.

We put this question to the manufacturer, and this was their reply: "If serrapeptase were drawn from actual silkworms, there wouldnt be enough silkworms in the world even to supply me! It is produced by harvesting the bacteria from a substrate of soy, but contains no soy residue. Hence: Vegan (even though bacteria are living organisms)".
Yes, it is.
We get asked this question a lot, but the mg of enzyme per capsule or tablet means nothing unless you also know the strength of the raw enzyme. What would be the point of having a very high amount of mg, but a product which is devoid or almost devoid of any actual enzyme activity? None! This is why the ONLY meaningful measurement is the strengh in IU. Unfortunately with all due respect, it is a pointless question. Anyone who tells you to obtain "XYZ" mg, unfortunately doesn't know what they are talking about. Neverthess since we get asked about this, the answer is 100g for the 250,000iu and 400mg for the 1 million IU capsules.
